govt stops scholarship for madrasa students in Classes 1 to 8

The central government has stopped scholarships for madrasa students from Classes 1 to 8.

The central government has stopped scholarships for madrasa students from Classes 1 to 8. Madrasa children from Classes 1 to 5 were given a scholarship of Rs 1000, while students from Classes 6 to 8 received scholarships as per the different courses.

Last year, 4 to 5 lakh children from around 16558 madrassas had received this scholarship.

The state government had already stopped the scholarship. But now, the central government has stopped it as well.

Mid-day meals and books are provided free of cost in these madrasas.

As per the government, education for students of Classes 1 to 8 is free under the Right to Education Act. And since other essential items are also given to the students, the scholarship has been stopped.

The government noted that this was why only students of Classes 9 and 10 would be given scholarships and so, only their applications should be forwarded.
