Good news: Govt Announces To Provide 3 Free LPG Cylinders To Every Household

Panaji: In keeping with the Bharatiya Janata Party ‘s election manifesto pledge, the Goa government will provide three cooking gas cylinders free of cost to households in the coastal state.

Pramod Sawant , the newly sworn-in Chief Minister of Goa, announced the decision after chairing the first meeting of the new cabinet, which includes him and eight other members.

“Chaired the first meeting after taking oath as CM. The Cabinet has decided to formulate the 3 free cylinder scheme as promised in the BJP manifesto from the new financial year,” Sawant tweeted last evening.

In its poll manifesto before the Goa Assembly Elections held last month, the BJP had promised to provide three free LPG cylinders per year if it manages to retain power.

Sawant also told reporters on Monday that he aimed to create jobs and restart iron ore mining during his tenure.

On being called an ‘accidental chief minister’ by his opponents, Sawant said this time he had been ‘elected’ and ‘not selected’ as Goa’s CM.

Sawant assumed the top post in March 2019 following the death of the then CM Manohar Parrikar .

Under Sawant’s leadership, the BJP won 20 seats in the 40-member House in the recently-concluded Goa Assembly Elections.

Three-time MLA Pramod Sawant was sworn in as Goa’s CM for the second time on Monday at the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee stadium in Bambolim near Panaji, four km from the Raj Bhavan, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries.

It was the second time that Goa’s CM took oath outside the Raj Bhavan.

In 2012, Manohar Parrikar was sworn in as the state’s chief minister at a ground in Campal, Panaji, after the BJP emerged as the largest party in the House.
